Saturday with Geraldine Chaplin
17. November
Saturday is a big day for ZFF. Apart from announcing its winners, the festival officially closes. Geraldine Chaplin arrives in Zagreb as a special guest of the 16th Zagreb Film Festival, and at the official closing at Europa cinema at 8pm we will be watching one of her recent titles, the bitter-sweet romantic comedy about love, friendship and motherhood Anchor and Hope, directed by Carlos Marques-Marcet.
Reruns at the Museum of Contemporary Art begin at 6pm with Together Again entry Leave No Trace by Debra Granik, which premiered at Sundance, followed by another title from the same section, Tel Aviv on Fire by Sameh Zoabi, about love that will not go unpunished.
At Tuškanac, the day begins at noon with a rerun of the Checkers. At 5pm it will be Transit, a film from The Great 5, directed by Christian Petzold, considered to be one of the most important contemporary German authors.
Two films from the LUX Film Days section will continue the line-up at Tuškanac. At 7.30pm it will be Styx and at 9.30pm The Other Side of Everything. Styx by Wolfgang Fischer has won several awards in this year’s Berlinale Panorama, including Europa Cinemas Label and the Ecumenical Jury Prize. The Other Side of Everything by Mila Turajlić was nominated for the best European documentary.
Industry wraps up this year with a Case Study: Ultra at 4pm at F22, followed by a Q&A with director Balász Simonyi at 5.30pm.
ZFF this year travels to Zagreb’s neighbourhoods of Travno and Dubrava, with a screening of Old Boys at 7pm at Dubrava People’s University, a Wes Anderson type comedy with a new take on the Cyrano de Bergerac tale, directed by Toby MacDonald.
Every day, including Saturday, ZFF begins its day with films for the youngest, but this Saturday is special because Bib for Kids also starts at Travno Centre of Culture. At noon we will be watching a very special film, directed by the first ever female director in Saudi Arabia. Accordingly, the film Wadjda is a story about a little girl with big dreams.
