In cooperation with Restart, we present a masterclass with Vanja Černjul, a Croatian cinematographer with a Hollywood address, who has worked on The Deuce (HBO), Marco Polo (Netflix), Julian Fellowes’ The Gilded Age (HBO) and the global hit, Crazy Rich Asians (2018) directed by Jon M. Chu. Vanja Černjul will talk about his first film and TV projects that marked his career, as well as his professional path. What does it mean to be a cinematographer and what is their role in the filmmaking process? Find out in a talk with Vanja Černjul, hosted by the President of the Croatian Cinematographers Society, Mario Sablić.

VANJA ČERNJUL
He graduated in cinematography from the Academy of Dramatic Art and made his first steps filmmaking in documentaries and as a war reporter. He began his television career as the cinematographer on the pilot for Ugly Betty, which opened the door for him in American television (30 Rock, Sister Jackie, Bored to Death, Orange is the New Black). He has twice been nominated for an Emmy Award. For his work on an episode of series Marco Polo, he received the Award for Best Cinematography of the American Society of Cinematographers, of which he is also a member. He lives in New York.
MARIO SABLIĆ
Born in 1962 in Zagreb. He graduated in cinematography from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. He was the DOP on over 300 music and commercials, about ten feature projects and 18 television series. He has received numerous awards for his cinematography, including four Nikola Tanhofer Awards. He is a professor at the Academy of Dramatic Art, president of the Croatian Cinematographers Society and a member of the board of directors at IMAGO.
